Five Tenets Of TaeKwonDo
- Courtesy - Refers to a person’s ability to respect oneself, as well as others. Respecting oneself includes taking care of your minds as well as your body. Respecting others involves being polite and considerate.
- Integrity - Refers to a person’s honesty and moral strength. Honesty involves being truthful with yourself as well as being truthful to those around you. Moral strength involves building character and demonstrating a willingness to adhere to what is right and just. Integrity also refers to the consistency of a system and its usefulness in teaching others.
- Perseverance - Refers to a person’s ability to take and maintain a stand. This refers to a student being able to stick to a course of action despite obstacles and roadblocks.
- Self-Control - Refers to the process of being in control of one’s own emotions, desires and actions. This includes being able to keep one’s thoughts and emotions to oneself when appropriate.
- Indomitable Spirit - Refers to a student’s ability to achieve his or her greatest potential through unyielding determination. This means students will not allow themselves to become easily discouraged or defeated.
